Practice and microphone
The app stores your goals, settings, practice totals and progress locally. If you allow microphone listening, your iPhone analyzes sound to detect music. Listening doesn’t save an audio file unless you turn on recording. PlayBefore does not send microphone audio or recordings to a server.
You can play or delete saved recordings in the app. Audio files are excluded from device backup. If you export a copy, the destination you choose controls that copy. Removing the app deletes its local practice library; we cannot retrieve it for you.
Screen Time and reminders
With your permission, Apple’s Screen Time frameworks let you choose apps to block. PlayBefore stores Apple’s selection tokens locally. Apple’s protected report displays time spent using those apps. We don’t receive your app list or usage report. You can turn blocking off in PlayBefore or revoke Screen Time access in iOS Settings.
Practice reminders are scheduled on your iPhone. No server needs your practice schedule to send them.
Purchases
When App Store purchases become available, Apple will handle payment. PlayBefore uses RevenueCat to check purchases and restore access. This involves an anonymous app-user ID, App Store transaction information, product identifiers and subscription status. We do not receive your payment card details. Apple and RevenueCat may retain purchase records needed to provide access, handle refunds or meet legal obligations.
Optional analytics and diagnostics
The current preview does not send live analytics or diagnostic reports. If enabled in a future build, these will be separate, opt-in choices. PostHog would receive a random installation identifier and limited events, such as whether practice started or an approximate duration range. Sentry would receive categories of technical problems and technical context. Neither receives recordings, Screen Time selections, usage reports or PINs through these features. You can turn either choice off in Settings to stop future reports.
This website and support email
This site has no advertising, sign-up form or site analytics. Vercel hosts the pages and may process request information such as IP address, browser and requested URL to deliver and secure them. If you contact support, Gmail processes your email address, message and any attachments so the developer can respond. Please leave recordings or personal details out unless you want to share them.
Support correspondence is kept as needed to resolve requests and meet any applicable recordkeeping obligations. PlayBefore doesn’t sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising.
Your choices and contact
You can change app permissions in iOS Settings. To ask about, access, correct or delete information you have shared with support, email playbeforesupport@gmail.com. Stuart Jehn, the independent developer of PlayBefore, handles these requests. The developer cannot access your on-device library or Apple’s Screen Time reports.
